What does UVC mean?
UVC means “Ultraviolet C”, or known as GUV, which stands for “Germicidal Ultraviolet” rays or wavelengths.
History of UVC
Everything seems to have its past and it isn’t any different with UVC sanitizing technology. We wanted to take a little time to explain some of the history of this technology and how it was changed into what we have today, and how Blue Halo adds a revolutionary way to apply it.
It all started in the year of 1801 when a man named Johann Wilhelm Ritter, a German physicist, first discovered UV irradiation. This particular part of the UV spectrum was not yet known to the world, and Johann would widen the view for most with newly uncovered electromagnetic waves.
Once this was discovered and known, Niels Ryberg Finsen was the one of the first to use UVC germicidal waves as a treatment for disease. He suffered from an illness called Pick’s disease and one in which his tissues would thicken in membranes of the liver, spleen, and heart. From this personal life event along with his interests while attending a university he turned to rays from the sun along with artificial light to find avenues of help and seek for benefits. Niels examined and studied and realized the ways in which sun and artificial lighting could be used. As a result his innovation was called the “Finsen curative light” and was well known for helping to combat lupus, smallpox and tuberculosis. In the field of applying light for treatment of skin diseases he received the Nobel prize for Physiology and Medicine in 1903.
In the 1930s, the idea of sanitized ventilation leaped into action from the help of a sanitary engineer working at the well known Harvard school of public health. From that point, upper room UVC systems were being put into school systems, barracks, hospitals and any public setting to slow the spread of measles, tuberculosis, and airborne disease.
In fact, there was a study done involving two schools in the year 1941 during a measles epidemic. Both schools measured the infection rate of measles through a certain amount of weeks. The first school went without UVC upper room fixtures and had a 53% infection rate. The second school installed the UVC upper room technology and had an infection rate of just 13%.
Many rigorous studies would back this innovative way to inactivate germs if used properly. Even though upper room UVC disinfecting ventilation was not as well known back then, they have been gaining in popularity and use everywhere.
- Used to disinfect water supply in France in 1908
- Major component to controlling and eradicating tuberculosis
- Over a century of use in school systems
- Used in hospitals and medical buildings
- Cut down infection rates in Philadelphia in 1941
- Helps eliminate airborne disease
- Nation wide use today and growing
Revolutionary UVC
UVC has a long history that comes with uses and practices, which have been developed over a couple hundred years. Through these years the technology has morphed and changed into numerous applications of uses and benefits, but not necessarily making a lasting impact.
Until now!
Blue Halo UVC Sanitized Lighting offers a new and revolutionary application for germicidal UVC electromagnetic waves. Instead of using UVC wavelengths in unoccupied areas – and even if the chance of these direct rays having side affects is very miniscule – we wanted to make sure that all rays, wavelengths, and radiation emitted from the UVC technology in our products are completely contained within. That’s right! There is absolutely no possible risk to you from our Blue Halo product line, because we make sure to self contain all and any UVC wavelengths.
While our Blue Halo products cleanse and purify the air of any known pathogen, they do it all totally and completely while the space is occupied and inhabited. No more finding time to clean or needing to file everyone out before performing a “cleaning cycle,” it cleans all throughout the day.
Another amazing reason to go with Blue Halo is our UVC Lighting inactivates pathogens and viruses completely without the use of toxic chemicals and cleaning agents.
Not to mention, Blue Halo offers a brand new way to combine a robust clean air environment technology with high energy efficient LED lighting. The only one of its kind. So you can cut costs and increase savings.
When its all said and done the goal is to make a safe, healthy, bright and pathogen free environment using Blue Halo UVC Sanitized Lighting. Protecting your staff and customers and providing clean air they deserve.
